Wamogo softball beats Terryville, faces No. 5 Stafford in Class S second round Wednesday

KEVIN D. ROBERTS/Register Citizen
The No. 21 Wamogo softball team beat No. 12 Terryville 1-0 in a Class S first round game at Terryville High School on Tuesday afternoon. Here's the full game story.
The Warriors will play No. 5 Stafford on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Stafford High School. The Bulldogs made quick work of No. 28 Westbrook, 9-0.
Wamogo was able to get past Terryville thanks to the pitching of freshman Malia Rebot (complete game, 0 runs, 5 hits, 6 strikeouts, 2 walks). Rebot got out of a bases loaded jam in the second inning, then escaped first and second with one out in the sixth. Warrior head coach Scott Marcucio went to Rebot instead of senior Brooke Bittel because of Rebot's previous performance against the Kangaroos. In a May 2 game in Litchfield, Rebot struck out 17 in a 3-2 loss. Rebot, who normally throws her rise ball pretty often, relied on her changeup Tuesday to get Terryville's hitters out.
Terryville junior Jamie Bridge threw a gem. She gave up just two hits, struck out 14, and walked none. Unfortunately for Bridge and the Kangaroos, one of those hits was to Warrior senior Kerri Stolle, who turned a good pitch on the outside corner into a triple, then scored when the relay throw went out of play.
Wamogo improved to 12-9 with the win while Terryville finished the season at 13-8.

A pair of Berkshire League softball foes meet today in the first round of the Class S state tournament when No. 12 Terryville (13-7) hosts No. 21 Wamogo (11-9) at 4 at Terryville High School.
I will be covering the game. You can find updates on Twitter @kroberts023. You can also find updates on my live blog. My live blog starts at 3:45.
The Kangaroos won both matchups, 9-0 on April 5 in Terryville (score is a mistake in roundup) and 3-2 in 11 innings on May 2 in Litchfield. The score in the first roundup is a mistake. It was 9-0. Terryville won the 'S' title in 2010 and was the runner-up in 2011. Look for more on this game later today and tonight.

Covering Avon baseball in the Class L state tournament today

I will be helping out The Avon News and New Haven Register today when I cover a Class L state baseball tournament game between No. 31 Avon and No. 34 East Haven at 11 a.m. at Buckingham Field in Avon. The winner of the game gets No. 2 RHAM-Hebron in the first round of Class L on Tuesday at RHAM.
You can get updates on the game on Twitter @kroberts023.
Avon enters the game with a record of 8-10. The Falcons play in the North Central Connecticut Conference. A win would be Avon’s first in Class L since the second round of the 2010 tournament, which was 5-0 over Woodstock Academy. The Falcons were the No. 2 seed that year.
East Haven comes in with a record of 8-12. The Yellowjackets play in the Southern Connecticut Conference. East Haven was in Class M last season. They went 8-12 and lost in the first round. In 2010, the Yellowjackets were in Class L, were 11-9, and lost in the first round. A win for East Haven would be its first since the second round of the 2008 Class L tournament, which was 7-4 over No. 2 Wethersfield. The Yellowjackets were No. 18 that year.
Look for more on this game later today and tonight.
