An introduction, plus Torrington-Wolcott NVL tourney softball

This is the first of what will be many posts on my new blog, which will take a look at what I am doing every day that I am covering a game, or anything else. I will provide pregame information on this blog, as well as postgame info.

Today, I am covering a Naugatuck Valley League Tournament softball quarterfinal between No. 2 Torrington (18-2) and No. 7 Wolcott (11-8), weather permitting, at Woodland Regional High School. The game is scheduled for approximately 5:15 p.m. You will be able to find updates on the game on Twitter @kroberts023. I am also running a live blog from the game. You can find that here.
Torrington and Wolcott played once already this season, with the Lady Raiders taking a 9-0 win over the Eagles at Wolcott High School on May 2. Torrington had 12 hits, including a 4-for-4 effort (2 doubles, 5 RBI, run scored) from Sydney Matzko. Marissa Morris was 2-for-4 with two RBI while Mollie Bartles was 2-for-4 with a run batted in. Leadoff batter Brittany Anderson added two hits and three runs scored. Nicole Jamieson and Brittany Young each scored twice while Alexa Potter added a booming double to the left center field fence.
Matzko threw a complete game and gave up just two hits. She struck out 16 and walked two.
Last year, Torrington made it to the NVL semifinals, where it lost to Seymour. The Raiders beat Watertown in a quarterfinal.
Look for much more on the Torrington-Wolcott game throughout the evening and night.
