Covering Avon baseball in the Class L state tournament today
I will be
helping out The Avon News and New Haven Register today when I cover a Class L state
baseball tournament game between No. 31 Avon and No. 34 East Haven at 11 a.m.
at Buckingham Field in Avon. The winner of the game gets No. 2 RHAM-Hebron in
the first round of Class L on Tuesday at RHAM.
You can get
updates on the game on Twitter @kroberts023.
Avon enters
the game with a record of 8-10. The Falcons play in the North Central
Connecticut Conference. A win would be Avon’s first in Class L since the second
round of the 2010 tournament, which was 5-0 over Woodstock Academy. The Falcons
were the No. 2 seed that year.
East Haven
comes in with a record of 8-12. The Yellowjackets play in the Southern
Connecticut Conference. East Haven was in Class M last season. They went 8-12
and lost in the first round. In 2010, the Yellowjackets were in Class L, were
11-9, and lost in the first round. A win for East Haven would be its first
since the second round of the 2008 Class L tournament, which was 7-4 over No. 2
Wethersfield. The Yellowjackets were No. 18 that year.
Look for
more on this game later today and tonight.
