Here's the full story, along with video highlights and postgame interviews, from Torrington softball's two-win day at the Naugatuck Valley League Tournament on Wednesday. The No. 2 Lady Raiders beat No. 7 Wolcott 1-0 in a quarterfinal, then knocked off No. 3 Woodland 3-1 in a semifinal. Both games were played at Naugatuck High School.
Torrington faces top-seeded and undefeated Seymour (22-0) in the title game today at 3:30 p.m. at Naugatuck. The Raiders lost the only meeting this season, 4-0 on April 11 at Seymour High School. The Wildcats beat No. 4 Naugatuck on Wednesday night behind stellar pitching from senior left-hander Kelly Ferris (CG, 2 hits, 11 Ks) and a home run apiece from Brianna Donnarummo and Katie Petroski.
Torrington head coach Maryann Musselman said her team must hit the ball and avoid mistakes in order to give themselves a chance to win.
